How did you get into Racing?

Flying has always been pursued by humankind for eons, and it’s no less for me. From skydiving, bungee jumping, or acrobatic gliding, I’ve always been looking for the ability to fly. Drone racing was a natural progression, and it gives equal amounts of adrenaline as most extreme sports. I was hooked as soon as I saw a video on Reddit a couple years ago, learned the basics on a line-of-sight micro, and quickly got into FPV. Being a mechanical engineer, the opportunity to design and develop my own aircraft added to the joy I find within drone racing, always pushing the boundaries.

How did you get into Racing?

In early 2015, I watched a few videos online of people remotely flying drones, and thought to myself “I can do that!” I purchased the required equipment, built the machine, and started flying in the local park on my own. I wanted to share the experience, so I turned to social media to track down some other enthusiasts, and found a small group of pilots about a 2 hour drive from home. I joined them at their next gathering and immediately started crushing the competition. The hook was set.

How did you get into Racing?

As I discovered FPV flying I knew my place in the world had been found. From design and construction to flight and performance, all aspects of this life style has left me completed. Drone racing found me as I was flying at a park one day and happened across the local community of racing pilots. It’s a shame the video goggles hid the expression on my face as I took my first flights around a track! Since that day the adrenaline pumping races, outstanding community and breath taking flights to inaccessible peaks have continually motivated me to push the envelope and explore the horizon of possibilities.

>After learning how to build my first drone I decided to reach out to a local online group of drone enthusiasts about setting up a fun fly. Well that turned into a full throttle race day which I had never experienced. These people turned into my best friends who I practice with weekly to strive to become a better pilot than I was previously.

How did you get into Racing?

Since as long as I can remember I have been addicted to things that go fast. In middle school it was fun to strap a huge fan and a parachute to a go-kart and do some really unsafe flying. For a long stretch motorcycle and car racing were all I cared about. As an “adult” I was hooked again by RC car racing, competing all over the world. The first time I flew a cheap drone from Fry’s it was game over, I knew I had found my forever sport lol. Flying in cool new spots while hanging with good friends, or helping bring new people to the sport…it doesn’t get any better than that.

After putting an FPV setup on my first quadcopter, and then eventually building one from scratch I knew there had to be more to this hobby than flying around the park. I then heard about a local race and after that I was hooked. Most of my free time now is spent practicing for the next big event.
